This year, the basic/intermediate Hacker Challenge added another topic to see what motivated security professionals thought about reverse engineering.  And, luckily for me, Israel Torres already had some ready-made challenges waiting for new takers.  Please visit his site to read more about those same challenges and test yourselves even further!

Thanks again to everyone that worked their tails off to play this year.  Scores will be up by 17 Nov 2010 (at the latest).

Thanks to all who participated this year and who have sent their answers in on time.

I plan to post a list of the players and teams who have material to grade tomorrow.  Winners will be announced NLT 17 Nov 2010.

In the interim, I would like to ask players to help me make this experience a better one for next year by filling out a little survey.  I’ll have a link to the survey, and will send out a copy of it, out by the weekend.  Thanks in advance!

We’re down the home stretch for this year’s Hacker Challenge. Please make sure that your answer sheets and all support materials are turned in by 2200 EST on Wednesday (10 Nov).  I’ll be disabling the FTP at 2201 and emails bearing answers received after the cut-off time will not be graded.  Teams need to ensure they are happy with all answers – make sure you sync your sheets.  The most recent answer sheet wil be the only one graded (ie: if it’s partial and is missing items from an earlier version, oopsie).

All are reminded to turn in all that they were able to do/find.  Scores will be tabulated and posted by the 17th.

Good luck to you all!

Yep, we’re down to the last few days of the 2010 Hacker Challenge.  Remember to turn everything you’ve done in by 2200 EST on 10 November.

And no, I will not entertain reasons why after that time / date that you should be excused for a late turn in.  All accounts and files will be taken offline after the cut off.

Sorry guys & gals, but I can’t give hints to very much in the HC2010 Player Pack without giving too much away, so outside of the below item, I am not giving hints.  Hammer Google for help – it will help a lot (I promise).

The only “help” I will give is that the longest password in the Windows 2008 Server password dump is 24 characters long. The rest are smaller.

For the early runners I have uploaded the spreadsheets I would prefer answers be sent in.  They help me grade a LOT quicker…

Alrighty, the router appears to be behaving at the moment so those rolling in using their FTP clients in OSX and Linux are having no issues (so far).  However, Windows users are still having issues from the command line (even using the LITERAL PASV command).  The fix for those users is to do the following:

1. Download and install WinSCP (it’s free).

2. Create an entry for squidly1.dyndns-web.com and make sure that the File Protocol is set to FTP.

3. Look to the left sidebar and click on Connection.  Make sure the radio button for Passive mode is checked.

4. Save your new FTP account entry.

Now, for the HC2010 Player Package itself.  I will post the update shortly.  Keep an eye up here or on the Twitter feed for the latest. ; )
